Il y avait un match ce WE à Twickenham (en fermeture du match Angleterre - Pays de galles) :
England Students 6 - France Students 41
England Students’ first appearance at Twickenham ended in a heavy defeat against a physical France side.
England had hauled themselves back into the game but conceded three tries when they were reduced to 14 men early in the second half that ended any chance of a comeback.
They did rally again in the final quarter but couldn’t convert some promising positions into points and their only scores were two first-half penalties from Hartpury full-back James Lennard.
Lennard also threatened with the ball in hand and coach Steve Hill singled him, Oxford wing Tom Tombleson and Durham No.8 Greg Irvin out for praise.
"Although France were a powerful side we sorted ourselves out and got back into the game after a difficult start," said Hill, the director of rugby at Oxford.
"We lost Mark Irish to a debatable sin-binning and they scored three times when we were down to 14 men and it’s always going to be difficult a man down against a good French side.
"Now we’ve got to use the time we’ve got together to improve ahead of the Italy game next week and they’ll have a strong pack of forwards too – although maybe not as street-smart as this French team.
"But there were encouraging things to work on. Tom Tombleson did well on the wing, Greg Irvin won his first cap at No.8 and carried the ball well and James Lennard kicked well out of hand and moved well in attack."
France applied the pressure through their pack in the first half, opening the scoring with the first of Gengenbacher’s successful penalties in the first minute.
Lennard levelled 10 minutes into the game with a penalty of his own before two tries from the visitors created by their ascendancy at the set pieces.
Marc Baget came up with the ball after he had been driven over from a lineout, then No.8 Brice Monzeglio forced his way over from the back of a close range scrum with Gengenbacher converting.
Lennard cut the lead with a penalty before the break and hit the post with another effort at the start of the second half.
But Irish was shown the yellow card for killing the ball close to his own line and three tries in the third quarter ended England’s hopes of clawing their way back into the game.
A five metre scrum created the opening for centre Shawn Hegarty to slip over in the left-hand corner, wing Florian Ninard and centre Benjamin Servien touched down on the right, Gengenbacher converted twice, and suddenly they had an unassailable 34-6 lead.
England threw on their replacements to freshen the game up with several making a positive impression with Lennard and Oxford’s Ali James both going close in the final minutes.
But France held out and then had the last word when Hegarty handed off to replacement hooker Julian Fiorini with Gengenbacher’s conversion taking them over the 40-point mark.
